Fly in the Flathead Valley

Flathead Valley Soaring Association serves as an extension of the Flathead Valley’s Paragliding and Hang Gliding community seeking to protect free flight and maintain access for local and visiting pilots.

Who is FVSA?

The Flathead Valley Soaring Association (FVSA) took flight in 2024, building upon a legacy of paragliding and hang gliding that traces back to the late 1980s when hang gliders first took to the skies above the Flathead Valley. Our roots lie deep in the passion and dedication of those early aviators who explored the exhilarating freedom of flight amidst the breathtaking landscapes near Whitefish, Kalispell, Bigfork, and Columbia Falls.

Maintaining Good Relationships

Site preservation is a cooperative effort between the FVSA, National Forest Service and State/DNRC. Checkerboard Launch and Lunch Lady LZ  is a multi-use area.

  • There are hikers, mountain bikers, mountain ops employees, and local neighbors.

  • As a pilot, you’re a representative of our community, so flying with safety at top of mind is very important.

  • Pilots are obligated to promptly report any incidents or accidents to  the Flathead Valley Soaring Association.

  • Communication should be done through the Club Telegram or the Board of Directors.
